Nominate a Journalist of Excellence
Nominations are open for the 2026 prize!
Neal Conan Prize Nomination Process
The Neal Conan Prize for Excellence in Journalism is awarded each year by an Advisory Committee of peers and practitioners — friends of Neal's who share a deep connection to his legacy and bring extensive experience in the field. The Committee considers active journalists working in print, online, radio, and broadcast from every region of the world.
To select the recipient, the Advisory Committee evaluates each nominee's exemplary work and published biographical information, weighing both their impact on journalism and how their values align with Neal's:
• Commitment to excellence in the craft
• Integrity and courage in pursuit of truth
• Nuanced understanding of complex issues
• Human-centered storytelling and respect for the audience
• Depth of research and preparation
• Belief in honest, creative storytelling, including visual storytelling
• A lifelong curiosity and drive to learn
• Journalism as public service
For 2026, the Committee is accepting nominations from people who share a passion for excellence in journalism. Individuals cannot self-nominate. If you'd like to nominate a mid-career journalist who embodies the criteria and values described above, please use the form below. You may submit one nomination per calendar year.
Nominations submitted by July 31st, 2026 will be taken into consideration by the committee.
