Neal Conan Prize Nomination Process
The Neal Conan Prize for Excellence in Journalism is awarded annually by an Advisory Committee, which includes friends from Neal’s life who each have a deep connection to his legacy as well as individuals with experience and expertise in the field of journalism. The Advisory Committee considers active journalists working in print, online, radio and broadcast from every region of the world.
To select the winner, the Advisory Committee reviews each nominee’s existing body of journalistic work and any published biographical information and considers both the nominees’ impact in the field of journalism and how to their values line up with Neal’s values which include:

Standard of excellence and commitment to excellence in the craft

Unyielding integrity

Courage in pursuit of truth

Nuanced understanding of issues

Passion for human interest angles

Belief in the power of honest, creative storytelling, including visual storytelling

A depth and quality of research; consistently does their homework

A drive for lifelong learning in pursuits and experiences outside of the classroom

Respect for the audience; a belief that people can/will understand complex things

Embodying journalism as a service to the republic
In 2025, the Committee is accepting nominations from people who are passionate about excellence in journalism. Individuals cannot self-nominate. If you’d like to nominate a mid-career journalist of excellence who fits the criteria and values described above, please use the form below to nominate them. You may only submit one nomination per calendar year.
Nominations submitted by July 15th, 2025 will be taken into consideration by the committee.
