A $40 shipping-container lock is the starting point for InGenius’s first film, which follows the hardware into global trade and China’s economic rise.

Veritasium introduced the film with 2027 Neal Conan Laureate Latif Nasser as host. Beginning with an object gives the explanation a point of reference as it moves across countries and decades.

Beyond Veritasium’s remit

The channel launched September 30, developed by people from Veritasium and Electrify. Its producers say the idea grew from stories about economics, geopolitics and social science that interested the team but fell outside Veritasium’s science-and-engineering focus.

A separate channel gives those subjects their own editorial identity. Its debut combines history, engineering and economics around a specific mechanism, rather than asking viewers to begin with an abstract account of trade.

A year before the first film

Executive producer Zoë Heron’s account describes a year of development, including repeated pilots and recruiting people on both sides of the camera. By her early October update, she had commissioned ten long-form films.
